Chiropractic First, Drugs Second, Surgery Last
At Westchester Chiropractic & Wellness we remind our patients that the order of priority for treating back and neck problems should be chiropractic first, drugs second, and surgery only as a last resort.
Chiropractic is one of the best ways to naturally and safely improve your health. Recent findings show that chiropractic is a better choice than drugs or surgery for spine pain. While drugs can temporarily mask symptoms, they do little to treat the root cause of the problem and may give an artificial sense of relief that could potentially cause further injury. Chiropractic on the other hand, relieves symptoms while addressing the underlying cause and restoring normal function.
A recent study in Spine suggests that patients suffering from back and neck pain are better off utilizing chiropractic care than taking non-steroid anti-inflammatories (NSAID’s). The study revealed that chiropractic adjustments were more effective, both in the short and long term, than NSAID’s for easing back pain and preventing its recurrence.
Even the American Medical Association (AMA) supports this chiropractic first position. A 2013 article in the Journal of the AMA, stated that chiropractic and other conservative treatments should be tried before other invasive measures are considered. More recently the AMA has come out publicly in support of chiropractic as a better option than invasive procedures.
